Progression to Employment
In September 2006 we launched our innovative Progression to Employment programme for young people with SEN requirements. The programme is designed to help young people access practical skills with a view to helping them into further education, acquiring qualifications and moving into employment.
What’s on offer
Students can choose from a range of short taster courses which introduce them to a skills area, mixing and matching as they wish. Taster course are typically half a day (3hours) a week for 12 weeks.
During 2009/2010 our taster courses will be offered in the following areas:
- Brickwork
- Carpentry
- Painting & Decorating
- Plastering & Tiling
- General Construction Skills
- Catering
- Communication Skills & Seeking Work
We also offer an accredited course in Motor Vehicle. This full day course (5 hours a week for 36 weeks) leads to a City & Guilds Level 1 qualification. The course is entirely workshop based and all assessments are conducted through verbal questioning and the building of a portfolio.
We also add courses throughout the year. The best way to keep in touch with the Progression to Employment programme is to speak to the programme co-ordinator at Wealden Skills Centre or to ask for regular updates through our email alert service. Send your details to info@wealdenskillscentre.co.uk, stating progression to Employment in the subject box and we will add your details to our distribution list.
